Thanksgiving

Despite the crickets that have been residing on this blog, I really do have quite a few posts in the works. Given this past weekend was Thanksgiving for Canadians, it gave me a swift boot to post this now as opposed to November. That would be a little awkward.

The above photos were taken Sunday morning. One of my best friends is visiting all the way from across the ocean and I’ve been wracking my brain for places to take her. She’s easy to please, but touring Toronto can be a bit overwhelming. Fortunately, she’s all mine for another two weeks. On Sunday morning, we took her downtown to the market to drool over ancient cameras (or was that just me?). The two on my wish list were purchased right under my nose…from two separate vendors…by the same man. If any of you have pined over a Rollieflex and know how expensive they are you’ll understand my pain when I saw a beautiful specimen bartered down to a mere $80. I chatted with the vendor with the vain hope he may have more. His ears perked up when I mentioned my great grandfather’s Kodak Autographic Special and offered a trade. As happy as a Rollie would make me, I’m far too much of a sentimentalist to give up such an item. I have a tiny photo of him holding the camera and really couldn’t bear severing this little link to my past. I think it’s rather neat to share a common interest with a relative who lived in a time when cameras (and therefore the hobby of photography) were quite the novelty.

The afternoon was quite a scramble as we shopped for four different recipes. I chose a different route on the return home so that we could set the heavy bags down and snap a few photos. The golden autumn light is irresistible.

Ah, Cider’s Tumblr slowed down, I know. In all fairness, we were separated for about a month, and September’s rain really sucked the inspiration out of me. Stay tuned for slightly more regular updates. Now that her growth rate has slowed I’m aiming for one photo a week as opposed to a daily shot. That made much more sense when you could practically watch her grow by the minute!

I was pretty reluctant to post the above two photos as really, they are not good. However, I hope you’ll forgive me as it was my first time playing hostess (and I was doing a poor job apparently now that I see an empty glass). My attention was focused on the food! The dinner was fantastic with everyone pitching in. I also loved having the excuse to burn the candles I brought back with me from the States. Three pies, and seven (?) additional dishes left us stuffed. Here’s to friends and many more shared meals!
